Hi everyone,
I've decided today to start writing in English, because I thought that this topic could interest many more people than only the French ones.
My article today will be about one of the leader in the tech market. While "Google Glass" is on everyone's lips, everybody can wonder "But what about Apple ?". Apple is the most innovative company in the market and we could have expected the first move on their side.
We don't really know if Apple has been overtaken by Google or if they just don't believe on this product, but something is sure, they're going to release something big to compete. The tech market has evolve a lot that last few years : from the desktop computer to the laptop that fits into a bag to be put in the pocket, now the computer reaches new frontiers: our bodies and the environment in which we live. Some analyst reports claim that the wearable devices will represent 1.4 billion $ in 2014. If someone happens to have a competitive advantage, he will become for sure the new master of high-tech for the next decade.
According to Tim Cook, the future of wearable devices is on the wrist. Samsung has already announced that they are working on the watch of the future and many manufacturers have filed patent applications.
Theses watches will enable users to call, read messages, take pictures, record videos, get an itinerary, look for something on Google, get info on a flight, translate sentences and use voice recognition. Possibilities seem endless, risks too.
Tim Cook thinks that wearable devices are very promising but that very innovative solutions need to be introduced. However, he claims that "No one will ever convinced a child who has never worn glasses to wear some". He is convinced that the new Google product is revolutionary, but that they might have chosen the wrong part of the body. I wear glasses because I have to." No doubt that Apple is going to release the iWatch. The supposed iWatch project is supposedly being headed up by John Ive, ex Nike design guru.
Would you be interested in such a device?
Also, a fun fact if you have an iPhone : try to say to Siri "OK Glass" and check how Siri is making fun of Google.
